A Case of Ulcerative Colitis

|
Chronic ulcerative colitis in chi_dren is more rare and serious than in adults. A case of ulcerative colitis is presented.
The male patient, 15 year old, was admitted because of mucoid or blood-_inged diarrhea, edema and pale-looking. He showed generalized edema, ascites, o´iguria, clubbing lingers, and depression on physical examination. The diagnosis of ulcerative colitis was made from the barium enema, sigmoidoscopy and biopsy taken from the annu´ar stricture 4 cm above anal verge. Good clinical .results were obtained from the rectal instillation of predniso´one, 2 mg per kg of body weight per day. Unfortunately no follow up studies were undertaken after the discharge.
